York Region's Top 3 Japanese Restaurants (1\/3) - Aka Oni

York Region, an affluent and rapidly growing community in Ontario whereI reside, is renowned for its exceptional dining scene. Amidst its diverse culinary offerings, the area boasts some of the best Japanese restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In this blog article, I'll introduce three standout Japanese eateries according to my personal experience, each offering a unique and exquisite taste of Japan.

1. AKA-ONI IZAKAYA & RAMEN

Address: 550 Hwy 7 Unit 66, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 3Z4

Aka-Oni Izakaya & Ramen

The first time I visited AKA-ONI IZAKAYA & RAMEN, I was immediately struck by the inviting aroma of simmering broth and the lively atmosphere. My friend and I settled into a booth, excited to explore the menu. I began with a mojito—a refreshing choice that was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness and a hint of mint. It was definitely one of the best among all the mojitos I ever had in town.

After careful study of the extensive menu, we decided on some of their signature items. The foood arrived quickly! The Chu Toro melted in our mouths, while the Wagyu Tataki was a savory sensation that had us fighting over the last bite. The wagyu uni maki was a delightful surprise, blending tender beef with creamy uni in perfect harmony. The 5-piece Black Diamond Roll, Aka-Oni's most famed tapas dish arrived on an elegant ceramic serving plate, layered with black tobiko, crab meat, BBQ eel, foie gras, caviar, and sprinkled with gold glitter. It was truly a decadent fusion of flavors that left us craving more.

The highlight of our meal was the Sashimi tray—a masterpiece showcasing the freshest seafood. When it arrived, the tray was served on dry ice with smoke billowing out, creating a dramatic and awe-inspiring display. Each slice was a work of art, boasting vibrant colors and delicate textures that melted in my mouth. Paired with a touch of wasabi and soy sauce, it was a true taste of Japan's coastal treasures. As if that wasn't enough, the Grilled Mackerel, perfectly seasoned and served with a dipping sauce that elevated its already divine flavor profile, provided the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.
