During the festival, this quaint street comes alive with decorations and vendors, providing a perfect backdrop for a stroll through time. The festival pays tribute to Unionville’s rich heritage, offering historical tours and exhibits that transport you back to the village's early days.

My 2023 Unionville Festival Experience

I missed this year's Unionville Festival due to my commitment to Baycrest's Bike for Brain Health event that same weekend. However, I'll share my delightful experience at the 2023 Unionville Festival. Living only 5 km away, I opted to bike there to avoid parking issues, taking a scenic route through the renowned Unionville Valleylands Trail. This beautiful trail winds through lush greenery, with trees arching overhead, vibrant flowers lining the path, and the gentle murmur of creeks flowing beneath charming bridges. A friend decided to join me, parking his car at my place before we set off on our bikes. The ride itself was filled with energy and excitement, setting a perfect tone for a fun-filled afternoon ahead.

As soon as we arrived, the vibrant atmosphere was palpable. Main Street was bustling with people, laughter, and the delightful aroma of various food stalls. My friend and I strolled through the food stands, drawn to the mouth-watering scents wafting through the air. We found ourselves particularly attracted to Chat Bar, a popular Chinese BBQ skewers restaurant in Unionville. The smoky aroma from their grill was irresistible.

We decided to indulge and ordered some grilled oyster and whole squid to share. The food was quite tasty, with the perfect blend of spices and that delightful char from the grill. However, we were a bit taken aback by the price. At about $40 in total, it was a steep price for street food, but the experience and the flavors made it worth trying.

After finishing our food, we locked our bikes at a nearby stand and continued strolling through the various booths hands-free, taking in all the sights and sounds of the festival. We snapped pictures of the beautifully decorated stalls and the vibrant street life, capturing the essence of the festival.

The live music performances were another standout inaddition to the food. I particularly enjoyed a local folk band that played at one of the stages; their music had everyone tapping their feet and dancing along.

Throughout the two-day weekend, various stages hosted live performances from local musicians, dancers, and theatre groups. The diverse lineup ensures there’s always something entertaining to watch, whether you prefer rock bands, folk music, or cultural dance performances.

Supporting Local Businesses

The Unionville Festival is not just about entertainment; it’s also a great way to support local businesses. Main Street’s charming shops and restaurants open their doors to festival-goers, offering special promotions and festival-themed merchandise. Whether you’re looking for a cozy café, a boutique clothing store, or a unique gift shop, you’ll find it here.

Community Spirit

At its heart, the Unionville Festival is a celebration of community. It brings together residents, businesses, and visitors in a joyful celebration of what makes Unionville special. It’s a time to connect with neighbors, make new friends, and experience the warmth and hospitality that Unionville is known for.

Plan Your Visit

The Unionville Festival regularly takes place on the first weekend of June, so mark your calendar and prepare for a weekend of fun and festivity annually. Parking can be limited, so consider using public transportation, carpooling, or biking like I did if you don't live too far away. Wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be spending a lot of time on your feet exploring all that the festival has to offer.

Join me and other neighbors on Main Street Unionville for a celebration of history, culture, and community. I can’t wait to see you all there next year!
